A remarkable arrival in France which opened the doors in Toulouse

Latrell SCHAUMKEL’s story with France began in 2019 when he joined the Léopards d’Aquitaine from Villeneuve-sur-Lot. He played 11 games there and scored 13 tries, finishing the season as top scorer of the French Championship Elite 1. He signed with Toulouse for the 2020-21 season and offered Sylvain HOULES several possibilities thanks to his versatility on the back lines.

Forever part of Toulouse Olympique’s story

Latrell made his debut with Toulouse in 2021 against York. He took part to 11 games during this season turned upside down by health restrictions preventing Championship teams from coming to play at Ernest Wallon. He scored 7 tries, including one in the Super League accession final won by Toulouse on October 10, 2021, the club’s historic first season in Super League. Result from the 2022 season: 4 tries in 10 games, including one at Magic Weekend during Toulouse’s successful game against Wakefield.

A tough decision

Annoyed once again with physical issues, he only played 2 games in 2023, which led him to end his professional career at 28 years old. After 23 games played in the Olympian jersey and 11 tries scored, the club is sad to see such a player leave: « I am obviously sad to see Latrell leave, because he is a very efficient player but he is an extraordinary person before all. As soon as he arrived, we felt that he was a devoted boy, who enjoyed himself on and off the pitch. I want to underline the courage to make this decision, at 28 years old, it is unfortunate for him. But I also wanted to say thank you for everything he brought to the club, we lived unforgettable moments and tell him that he will always be at home at Toulouse Olympique.” Bernard SARRAZAIN, TO XIII President. A feeling of sadness also shared by Latrell SCHAUMKEL: “I thank the staff and the club for giving me the opportunity to spend 3 unforgettable years. Both on and off the field I spent moments that will remain in my head, all the friendships I made here I will never forget them. The club, the fans and this city will hold a special place in my heart forever.”
